Founded in 2020, Hooves for Healing believes that all animals deserve a full, happy, and healthy life. Our primary focus is rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses and donkeys that have been mistreated and neglected. We welcome all breeds and types of horses—from minis to drafts, donkeys, and everything in between—and strive to provide them with the care, compassion, and support they need to live happy, healthy lives.
Our state-of-the-art mustang rescue and horse adoption facility in Petaluma, CA, serves as a sanctuary for these magnificent animals. Staffed by professionals who understand their complex needs, and supported by diligent volunteers, we ensure that every horse and donkey receives daily love, care, and compassion. Visitors are always welcome to learn more about these wonderful animals and the special traits that make horses so majestic.

While our primary mission is to ensure a safe and supportive environment for the horses and donkeys we care for, we also aim to educate our visitors about these amazing animals. Horses have a soul—they feel love, fear, joy, happiness, shame, rage, compassion, respect, and much more. They are also able to pick up on more than we do, on a ‘spiritual’ level, through their instinct to survive.
Horses are herd animals and respond mainly to body language and vocal cues. An even more magical and captivating fact is that horses can literally feel your heartbeat from four feet away. This testament to their incredible sensitivity explains why so many people instantly feel a connection, even to a horse they just met.

All About Rehoming
At our equine rescue, we focus on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming horses. Horses come to us in need of medical attention, proper nutrition, care, and nurturing. We spend no less than 90 days to ensure a horse’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being before we rehome them. We carefully assess each horse’s needs and create a tailored rehabilitation plan.
How to Obtain a Horse in Need of a Home:
If you are considering adding an equine member to your family, we recommend visiting our sanctuary to meet our horses. Spend time feeding, grooming, and getting to know them. We have various areas for riding or simply spending quality time with your potential new companion. We aim to ensure that you and your equine friend become lifelong partners before sending them home with you.
Why a Rehoming Fee?
At the time of adoption, all horses are current with vaccinations, deworming, hoof care, and dental care. Our rehoming fees help us recover some of our costs and continue our mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming future horses in need.
