At Hooves for Healing, we believe in the transformative power of equine-assisted therapy. Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Petaluma, CA, our programs are designed to promote emotional and physical well-being through meaningful interactions with horses. Whether you’re looking to enhance your life through therapeutic riding, engage in enriching summer camps, or learn the art of horsemanship and horse riding through our equine academy, we offer a supportive environment that fosters growth, confidence, and joy for individuals of all ages.
Founded in 2020 as Loscutoff Equine Rescue, our organization has grown from rescuing horses to realizing the profound impact these magnificent creatures can have on people. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to connect horse and human through compassionate teachings and shared experiences. We are dedicated to healing lives that have been damaged, usually through no fault of their own, and creating a sanctuary where both horses and humans can thrive.
At Hooves for Healing, we offer a range of programs designed to leverage the unique bond between horse and human to promote healing, growth, and learning. Our equine-assisted therapy programs utilize the intuitive nature of horses to help participants experience reduced anxiety, improved emotional regulation, and enhanced self-esteem. Each therapy session is tailored to meet the individual needs of participants, ensuring a personalized and effective healing journey.
In addition to therapy, we provide comprehensive riding lessons in both English and Western styles. Our experienced instructors are dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of riding while fostering a deep connection between rider and horse. Whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced rider seeking to refine your skills, our lessons are designed to help you grow as a rider and a person.
Our summer camps also offer a unique and immersive experience for children and adults alike. Running typically from 9 am to 2 pm, four days a week, our camps include a variety of engaging activities such as art projects, obstacle courses, and educational packets that teach about horse anatomy, care, and history. Daily riding lessons and practical skills like bathing horses, understanding hoof anatomy, and learning about saddle and tack components are integral parts of the camp experience. We also offer thematic weeks, like Unicorn Week for younger children and historical explorations for older kids and adults. Our camps are designed to build confidence, foster friendships, and create lasting memories. Additionally, we offer our camps as field trips for schools, providing an educational and exciting day out for students.
Through these diverse programs, Hooves for Healing aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of horses, while providing valuable therapeutic, educational, and recreational opportunities for our participants.

“Horses are the tonic the human soul craves.”
“I’ve often said there’s nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.”
At Hooves for Healing, we currently have five rescue horses, each with its own story of resilience and recovery. These horses, once in need of care and compassion, now play a crucial role in our therapeutic programs. They are living examples of the powerful bond that can form between human and horse, and they help us demonstrate that healing is a two-way street. Often, the horses and the people who come to us are both in need of healing, and together, they find renewed hope and strength.
Our approach is centered on the philosophy that both horses and people can rescue each other. Many who come to us are emotionally empty and in need of nourishment for the soul. Through our programs, we aim to provide that nourishment, feeding both the soul and the body. Each interaction, each moment of care, helps build a bridge to a better future for both our human and equine participants.
So what are you waiting for? We invite you to join us at Hooves for Healing and experience the profound benefits of equine-assisted therapy, riding lessons, and summer camps. Together, we can change lives—one hoofbeat at a time. So come explore the healing power of horses, and discover how our programs can help you or your loved ones grow, heal, and thrive.
So whether you’re here for therapy, learning, or just to enjoy the company of these majestic creatures, we look forward to welcoming you into our community soon.
